Aspire Academy

The
Vision

Our vision is that all young people in West Cumbria have the opportunity to realise their potential, to gain skills and knowledge, and to be ready to play a full and fulfilling role in society.

Each academic year, a cohort of student from the WCLC will construct, and then dismantle, a building to learn the key basic building skills required to help them move into work or further training in the construction industry, as well as the social, employ-ability and team working skills that will enable them to make other, positive choices if they wish to.

Staffed by educational leads and teaching assistants alongside a technical lead, students will gain specific, and job-related skills, experience and accredited qualifications in addition to gaining greater confidence and skills in communication, team working, timekeeping, working in a structured environment, experience of completing tasks individually and as part of a team, the ability to identify and achieve goals, be able to evidence specific construction skills and knowledge to potential employers and develop relationships with industry professionals and potential employers.

The curriculum for the centre has been designed in collaboration with the Lakes College and students will be able to study for and achieve industry standard qualifications up to and including Level 2 whilst at Aspire Academy.
